Hello everyone,
My name is Alyona, I'm arriving to Sri Lanka in one week, and planning to volunteer in local NGO, I will  have a tourist visa. I have few questions:
Is it still possible to open debit account being on tourist visa?
which documents are required?
Which bank can you recommend?
Thanks in advance for any advice

HI Elena,

Not too sure about whether u can open account here. Passport would be sufficient. I guess since u are in tourist visa, im not too sure whether u can open an accountl. Better visit the branch directly an see.  I would recommmend to open your bank account with Commercial Bank sri Lanka. You can use this link https://www.combank.net/newweb/en/personal/savings

an see what kind of documents required. Also can refer central bank websites what kind of documents required. http://www.cbsl.gov.lk/index.asp

If you are getting your salary in foreign corrency, FEEA or SFEEA accounts would help.
Only issue is that you need a seperate LKR account to handle the local transactions.

If your NGO is willing to provide the needy introduction, any local bank (HNB, Sampath, Commercial or Nations Trust) can help you in getting the accounts created.
