Moving to Mauritius

Post new topic

Hi

I'm currently interviewing for a job in Mauritius. I'm single with no kids and love diving, biking and trekking. Was wondering how easy or difficult people thought it is to create a new circle of friends on the island as I don't have 2 of the usual routes meeting people ie through kids or partners.

Thanks for your feedback!

I think with the stuff you do you will make friends pretty easy. I have made some amazing friends on this site alone. We move there in April and we visited in November for just 2 weeks and we met so many nice people.
If you are social and make friends easily then you shouldn't have any issues.
Where about will you be on the island ?

Hi Cara

Thanks for your speedy reply!

That's reassuring to hear.

The company is based in Grand Baie so I am assuming I'llfind somewhere in that area.  Im visiting there for a couple of days next week & if things go to plan would be moving in March so it's all happening pretty quickly. Hence trying to find out as much as possible re expat life there. There doesnt seem to be much on the web except this site. Are there any others you would recommend?

Also having been there for a little while yourself would you recommend the move?

Thanks

Lisa

Hello Lisa

Welcome to Mauritius. There's an expat group called "Let's do dinner darlings" on Facebook who do regular meet ups in the west and north area of Mauritius. Its purpose is for ladies to get to know each other. There's a lunch planned on 18 February in Grand Baie, try to join.

I have been in Mauritius since June, but so extremely busy job wise that I had no time for social life, but it is time now :) It will be my first time joining the group, so if you are in Mauritius on that day, join as well! Be quick, places are limited and if full, share your story, they hopefully can add you to the table reservation.

There's another expat group called Maurice Accueil (website + Facebook), but it is French based that I know. Didn't join them yet.

Good luck.
