Following fashion in Malaysia

Post new topic

Hi everyone,

Do you follow fashion trends in Malaysia? Every country and every culture has its own dress code. As far as you are concerned, have you changed the way you dress?

Can one easily find fashion boutiques in Malaysia? Are clothes expensive there? Or cheap?

What do Malaysians usually wear or like to wear the most?

Share your experience!

Aside from traditional dress. and even then, if you follow fashion trends in Malaysia (or Asia) you'll be the worst dressed person on the planet. Before there can be a trend worth following people have to learn about fashion and develop a fashion sense that works. Ive never known that to be the case because the sense is absent.

1. Many Asians derive their sense from western styles so if you are a westerner you are already doing better then they are. But t-shirts and jeans isnt a trend and it isnt a trend worth following had it been a trend.

2. Among those here easiest on the eyes, that would be Malay women up to about the age of 35, and younger, affluent Chinese males, even they have no idea how to dress and everything goes downhill from there among the remainder.

3. Traditional dress doesnt offer very much respite because the colors, textures and patterns came from alien planets devoid of any sense of anything. Just walk through Komdar or Nagoya sometime.

4. That leaves poor Metrojaya and Isetan to attempt to deliver the best they can in terms of any sense or style to follow but people refuse to, or cannot, spend up for it.

5. Within the miserable Style-Trend framework, mini fashion wars sometimes erupt. Currently, So. Korean style is all the rage but given what they have, thats the blind following the blind.

Its hopeless. What passes for style, for fashion, for trends are not as such and youd be plain dumb to follow any of it unless you want your dog to bark and growl at you. Maybe one day someone will decide on a lark or pure accident to open fashion magazines but until then, forget it and move along.

Could not agree more. It is very sad to see some good stores closing down in Malaysia, like Denim and Supply from Ralph Lauren last month or  last year Promod from Paris.

This topic really grinds my gears!
I run a fashion jewelry brand here. My role actually requires me to dress on trend and fashion-forward on a daily basis. This is sooooooo difficult here! I'm finding it really hard to find pieces to style together. There is a lack of cool stuff! It's a bad sign when you start to only shop at Zara and H&M..

I feel like the fashion here is actually just about comfort. It's not a way of life. There's no thought process behind outfits and for most people- no effort is made. Many people I encounter have no idea that what they are wearing can be an expression of who they are.
I swear all i see is colour blocking different shades of pastels and browns Also, no one seems to understand the concept of dressing for the position they hold..this just blows my mind..

I interview new candidates everyday to work in my outlets. Most are shocked when I tell them they're required to dress well..they are shocked that they must dress well in the fashion industry...??!!!

Worse yet, my personal style has taken a beating and become much more conservative and borderline bland..

Especially lady fashion, it's hard to find a good fashion house to custom and tailor made following your design and body measurement. I just came across a website that can do women's suit ( professionally ), office dress, office wear . Some of my friend recommend that they deliver good quality of tailor made fashion.
