Hi all

Just a quick message to say hi to all expats and would-be expats in Canada! I just got my working holiday visa, my husband's waiting for his, so in a few months we'll leave on a jet plane and start the adventure...

Thanks to all of you who are posting, answering and moderating this forum, it's really useful to read different opinions and not just one-size-fits-all immigration guides. I'll carry on reading and might post the odd question (like, can you ever get warm enough clothes for Canadian winters?) and anyway I look very much forward to see by myself what it's really like.

See you soon on the forum, soon-ish in Canada (Montreal or Toronto... undecided yet)!

Thanks guys - AlbertaBoy, there are many reasons why we're moving to Canada and I was trying to go through all of them last night... The main ones are that Canadians seem to be tolerant and easy-going people (the ones I know anyway, and that's what I read in most books or websites about the country), I love the music scene, past and present, I can't wait for all the festivals, and I'm also interested, because that's what I'm studying at the moment, in public art/street art/intervention art, and there seems to be a lot of that going on (from Toronto's city council public art programme to Poster Child and Le Lieu in Québec). Professionally, my husband is a bar and restaurant manager, or rather was when in England, impossible here in France without fluent French - that's partly why we're leaning towards Toronto at the mo, no language barrier for him. I want to be freelance in the cultural eventually - again just like I was in England, and it's impossible in France! Well, they say "impossible" is not French... People here are pretty suspicious of anyone showing any sign of initiative, and for that I really miss England, but we left because 1. we wanted a change 2. France was easy, since I'm French, got friends and family... 3. we were already preparing our PR visa for Canada and realised it would take way longer than we thought and also that my husband should improve his French to score more points... oh and 4. the weather, but I'm not sure I should have too high hopes about Canada?
