as you can imagine, everyone who come here has this question.  So this is discussed a lot here, there's a search feature you can use to save us all some trouble and get your answers quicker.

IMPORTANT NOTE -- for room renters - Please note well!!
Every single room rental in Malta and Gozo MUST carry an MTA license. The period of time is of no significance. From days, to weeks, to months, to a year. ALL room rentals MUST be MTA licensed.
I have a lot more information now directly from the horses mouth, so this can no longer be argued, and yes, this should be shared.
It is a total misconception that only short term room rentals should be licensed.
Be sure your landlord has the appropriate licence per room

Further notes
A twin room must be not less than 13 sq meters. License €46.59 per year. 2 beds not less than 9.5 meters, 3 beds not less than 18 sq meters 3-4 people license €93.17 ALL license holders must also have a good conduct certificate and register for VAT for the eco tax

it should also be noted and this is important - - - - that the applicant (MTA licence holder) must be living with the room renters according to the id Card Address which must be the same.

The problem is, if you do rent a room and you have a problem, MTA won't step in and help if it's not licensed, they will tell you that you should have asked up front - Caveat emptor - Latin term that means "let the buyer beware - so no matter what.,.... ASK THIS QUESTION...... ARE YOU AND THE ROOM I AM LETTING LICENSED BY THE MTA.... IF SO MAY I SEE THE MTA LICENCE.. THANK YOU
