Hi, Plan to visit SG  (27Feb-5Mar,2011) tickets booked already via SG airways. Hotels/Transient not been book yet, though i check google for this one, still really confused in which place should i stay? im looking forward to take a bus and mrt, as well as walking, eating, picture taking etc. etc.. im listing my itinerary for the week, but i dont know where to start.. so i guess, it will be a BIG HELP, once i know where is the best area to stay in SG with a fair budget cost. its ok to stay for a transient, i found lots in pasir ris, i found fernloft.com. and other expensive hotels in orchad road (but not there i guess, lol). I love outdoors and really looking forward to meet expats from there..

Please suggest which places should not miss once arived in SG.

Waiting for replies...

Thanks a lot

If you like the outdoors and want to avoid the commercial shopping mall inferno of downtown avoid anything in the Orchard area. I think there are some cool (and affordable) boutique hotels down in Joo Chiat which would put you right in a more cultural location and close to some really good hawker centers and sightseeing. There's also transit out that way and when in doubt, the taxis are crazy cheap.

I suggest walking through the Botanical Gardens, hiking in the nature reserves and I've heard that the bird park is also amazing.

I would also make sure you stroll through little india, arab street and chinatown for good food and more fun shopping.

Hi,

I am a singaporean. I suggest that if you are looking for budget hotels with good locations, try the Hotel 81 along chinatown area. It is rather clean and safe.
It is always good to mix into the local culture, going to hawker centres and coffeeshops to eat etc

Hiya,

Drawing from my personal experience, the club hotel would be a good choice... only 10 minutes walk the heart of action, whilst offering proximity to China Town as well. Loads of pubs and restaurants around, check out the details at
theclub.com.sg/boutique-hotel-rooms.html

Have a safe journey, see you soon :)
