is Carteira de Estrangeiro mandatory for stays less than 90 days?

becazzo

I am trying to figure out if I also have to pay for this card, it doesn't make sense to me because when it will arrive I will be gone and I don't plan to come back.

But I can't find that info anywhere. Does anybody know?

Also, when I leave Brazil I guess they will check my passport to stamp it, are there fines for not registering the visa? I have read the articles regarding the registration but couldn't find info about fines.

Thank you

You will not need the card. It doesn't apply to you.

As far as registering with the PF I did it when I was a tourist. They probably won't say a thing about it at immigration when you leave. Unless it is a hassle for you to do it I would just do it.

Thanks Jim, I saw your post. It will be complicated for me to register. Could you please tell me if when you register they stamp your passport or give you a receipt?

Are you sure that it will not be a problem when I leave the country?

How do you know they will not make me pay for the card? I am not a tourist visa, I am on a research visa but I am not getting paid, I am just considered a visting scholar.

The reason I know that you don't need the card is that the card is for permanent residency status. Who told you that you needed it? As far as paying for it. If you don't need it you won't have to pay for it. I don't have too much experience with research visas. i will do some more research on it. You should also go to   pf.gov.br
