Unfurnished rentals

Hi

We are about to move to Malta for work reasons and we are looking at property, but all houses etc seemed to be furnished.  Is this the way rentals are done in Malta?  We have accumulated furniture and will be stuck with what do do with it if we cannot take it with us.  Of course we can sell some of it, but some has sentimental value.  Are there houses available to rent un-furnished or partly furnished available as a rule, and if so, who's the best agents or best sites to find them?

Thanks for your time and responses

Hi Dj!
Are you coming over first to view properties? The agents don't generally have correct info on their websites ever! So be prepared!
It should be possible to find an unfinished place to rent but you should try to come out and suss it all if its possible.
There's loads of handy info on this forum about renting if you search it on the past threads too!
Wishing you much luck
Debbie😊

Be careful if you do decide to take a furnished one as some landlords would require you to store their furniture that you dont want at your cost

yes there are unfurnished rentals but they are far less and limit your options considerably

best advice try and do it without an agent as they dont afford you much if any protection if things go wrong - dont pay any rent or deposits up front if you can help it - get written agreements into the contract for things to be done prior to occupation... get receipts each and everytime.. never ever pay many months rent up front. Dont sign any rental lease until you know exactly what the plans are for utility billing and preferably demand form H be signed prior to occupation...

dont under any circumstances accept a verbal agreement to do so or promises to do it ( hard to when they appear to be friendly and smiley smiley)  be firm  demand it and get it all before signing up -  if a refusal you are better off walking away.

Good luck - PROTECT YOURSELF ALWAYS

Thanks for the tips.

Remember too that the prices and details shown currently on many if not all of the agents websites are not accurate nor current - so be prepared for a shock as rents have risen to extortionate levels.

GozoMo

With regards to furnished properties, we have noticed in Gozo that many of the properties are furnished with better quality modern furniture now which is more acceptable to most people.

That may be the case, but I have my own furniture
