Three transit cops were arrested today (April 15, 2017) in Cuenca for demanding bribes they took from motorists.

The bribery incidents occurred at traffic stops, some unauthorized, at which the police solicited cash payments in lieu of fines for vehicular infractions.

A Cuenca Expat named George Amerson reported such activity after paying a $40 bribe in February.

Today's arrests occurred after motorists complained to police authorities.

Amerson recommends getting the ID number of any officer who engages in improper behavior.

Corruption destroys a nation so anything that slows it down has to be a good thing. Indonesia's problem is falling away quickly now the anti corruption commission finally has the teeth and political backing to get its job done.
