Hi Denial,

First of all, its not a good idea to open a company in Oman in current economic situation.

Regarding your question, its depends on what type of company you are planning to open, the nature of business, is it a new company or a branch office.

You may be pleased to visit this website to get information about the documents required for registration of a particular company.

Thanks.

Hi sherry rajiv,

How expats wish to start a new company in Oman were as simple as producing some documents and lo and behold, the new company is open !

As per Omani laws, no expatriate can open a business, any business, by himself or by herself.

All business enterprises must necessarily have a local (Omani) partner, who would hold the majority stake in the business. And of course, all official / ministry / approval dealings would be conducted in Arabic.

The good thing in all this is that it is very possible for a well-connected expatriate to find a 'sleeping' sponsor who would only take care of the needed while leaving the expatriate to conduct the business - as long as the agreed compensation is credited to his account duly.

Well, these are only the tip of the iceberg ...

The expatriate could form a limited liability company and become a major shareholder by doing following:

1. Have strong bank statement
2. Have a local sponsor to become 30% shareholder
3. Copies of the resident card and passport
4. copy of sponsors ID
5. 6 months bank statement of the both shareholders
6. Police clearance certificates of the both shareholders
7. 2 photographs of the shareholders
8. 5-6 name selected for the new company

The above docs are required for CO. registration at MOCE.
