RE MY SPANISH:  My spanish is ok for basic conversations and socializing BUT if conducting medical evaluations or complex business dealings I want a fluent college educated Ecuadorian  friend to trasnlate just to be certain I have not misunderstood anything. When I registered my visa in Quito I had him with me and also when I opened my bank account.   Jim
