Hi

I need someone who speaks Hungarian to make a phone call to the customs office and maybe immigration as well. I am trying to find out if they tax you on your personal belongings when they are shipped into Hungary after you have your residence visa but before you get your residence card. I am getting different stories from people. So if anyone can recommend a reliable bilingual person I'd appreciate it.
Thanks
Jim

Recommending specific businesses in the forum is frowned upon. But I can suggest you look at the list of translators and interpreters in the Expat.com business directory, where you might find recommended businesses.

Do note: Just calling an office in Hungary is not always enough because the person in the office may just given any answer, even when they themselves do not even know the correct answer. Which is why I recommend contacting a professional interpretor who has some experience dealing with government offices and the actual legal code and can get to the truth. Simply contact some language interpreters and ask them of their experience dealing with such government and expat issues (that is -- shop around).

Yepp, sometimes two employees of the same office can give you contradictory information...
