Work Contract vs Maltese Law

Hi,

I've been living/working in Malta for more than 10 months now. I'm considering to change jobs and I was wondering which one is binding when it comes to notice period of employment termination, the law or the contract?

For example I'm working in my current company for almost a year now and my contract states a notice period of 3 months. But the law says that it's 2 weeks:

If I decide to leave, can I do it by giving notice 2 weeks in advance?

Thank you for your answers.

Hi there

3 months notice seems a long time for less than 1 year service. Can you ask someone you trust at work, what they understand the notice period to be?

I have just started work with a new employer, and my notice period is 2 weeks up to one year.

Good luck!
