Ban Me Thuot

Vern,  I went to BMT 2 years ago, just so happens it's during the elephant festival, that town loves a party.  No rooms to be had.  ha d to sleep in an old Russian army barracks...total s**t hole.  Went on to Pleiku where I was stationed after DBT closed in 71.

Dan,  I figure you had prob been to BMT. Pleiku isnt what it used to be I heard since it mostly burned down in 1975 during the retrest from the city. Am told most of the houses were replaced with those ugly Russian style block apts, very sparce.
My friend, Jim Kyle, in BMT has been living with a Viet family he befriended during the war days. He retired and chose to move up to BMT about 3 yrs ago. He was US Navy corpsman in Hue AO for 5 yrs and then was civilian for another 6 yrs around country, finally leaving RVN 11 yrs later in Jan 1975 when contract work dried up. He worked thruout mostly the Middle East beforer returning home to Vietnam. I have been talking with him by emails for some time now. He doesnt see any other Americans up there but he is somewhat of a home body not going anywhere. we both hope to get together once I make it back to Cam Ranh amd we can hoist acouple of beers and talk over old times a bit too.
I am looking to see if any other ex-pats might be up his way that he could meet as he seems lonely. he lives on SS money mainly I think. It goes quite a bit further in VN than it would stateside.
