Resignation under probationary period

Post new topic

Hello,

I am an expat in Malta who is still under the probationary period.

I am considering resignation because I am looking forward to moving to another country (this is just a career plan, absolutely nothing against my employer and Malta itself). However, I am aware that my employer has expended significant cost for my relocation here which included work permit and visa fees. Nothing is stated in my contract nor employment handbook regarding whether I would be obliged to pay for the relocation cost. So I hope someone could help me determine whether I should pay the relocation cost, by also taking into consideration that I am still under probationary period.

Thank you.

No comment on the legal side but from a moral view I would think it's only fair to pay or make a contribution towards their outlay. If they've been good to you if would seem only fair.
