Retiring in Cambodia

I'm 69 years old, but I haven't retired. I'm a freelance writer. I make more freelancing than I would if I had a pension. I enjoy working and don't want to stop. I've seen many retirees in Cambodia who seem a little lost. Having work keeps me active and I still have time to do the things I enjoy.

I have been retired in Cambodia for 5 years. I lived in Phnom Penh for 2 years and found it to be very crowded and congested. The good things about it are the same all over Cambodia. Reasonable rent good cheap beer and low food prices.
Rent was $150. a mo. unfinished that is low end.  High end u can pay anything.
I now live in Sihanouk Ville on the Gulf of Thailand much nicer. I think about 150,000 people but growing fast.
Health care is an issue but it has improved in the time I have lived here.
Drugs are cheap and many dung stores are here.
Rent is low-end $200  and up. Power bill with air-con about $70. water $6-9  cable $10. WiFi private $15. Food depends on what u have, mine with 3 others in the house is about $400. a mo. but I eat well!
Draft beer in bars .50 to 1.00. can beer 1.00 to 2.00 outside. By the case $12. for 24.
You can sit on the beach and have a draft beer served to you for $.50
Many casinos if u like to gamble.
Food outside, dinner 2.50 and up. Many restaurants serve Western foods.
I am living well on$1500 with a lady and her 2 boys. I couldn't do that in the States.
I don't really want to share this information. I'm afraid too many Americans will move here. I'm from Texas.

If your over 55 you can easily get the 1 year multi entry visa for $290. Superb living conditions here in Siem Reap, good food, friendly locals, clean air, very walkable city. I get by on $700 but I dont drink or get high.

@mcbrienfrank617 lots of good forum posts as people pointed out. Will tell you how to get retirement extension of stay. I live in Siem Reap. Love the city. Now in a smallish apartment with my Khmer girl friend. She has lived here most of her life. Rents are cheap. Fun place to live. We don’t eat out much any more since she loves to cook. She does the shopping for us. For clothes, small furniture items, food.

Recommend you visit a few places first. Get an idea of what works for you. This is my second or third time living here. I used the retirement visa before as a home base and skipped around Asia for some years. Enjoyed that immensely.
