H1-b and passport expiration date

Hello all!
I am from Brazil and I will be moving to NYC next month on a H1-B visa. I received the approval last week and I need to schedule the interview at the consulate here in Sao Paulo. However, the attorney advised me to renew my passport first, since it expires march/18 and I need to present a passport valid for at least 3 years (the duration of the visa). But... Brazil, due to some budget constraints, stopped issuing passports temporally. They expect for it to be normalized this week, but I am really afraid it is going to take too long to get it done. The attorney said it is possible to get the visa on my current passport and renew it later, but I will probably need to leave the US before March and then come back. Does anyone have any similar experience with this? Thanks!

You may wish to check this out very carefully.
Under the new rules the chances of H1 visas may be in jeopardy.
It may be revoked anytime. You may need to influence someone in Brazil to get your passport problem sorted out before coming here. Usually the US embassy will request your password be valid for at leas 6 months.
Please do some research to be on the safe side.
I have been in the USA for the past 42 years, I am writing to you with my knowledge and experience in these matters.
The last place you want to mess is the IRS (revenue service) and Immigration.

Hope this helps
