That is "hello" in Estonian.

In another 3 months we'll have been living here, in Tartu, for 2 years.
According to my husband, this is our last permanent move. Moving from Australia to MA, USA was to fulfill his dream of living & working in the country of his birth, but now we have returned to his roots (both his parents were Estonian refugees after WW II).

English is the official 2nd language here, but as there are many Russians living here also nearly everything is written in only Estonian or Russian, & occasionly English. Otherwise Tartu is a beautiful old city to live in. I find it very easy to get around by foot & car.

We have moved here to take up residence in a house that was built for my husband's grandparents in the early 1930's. The Russian government renovated the house in 1976 & was used as an official government questhouse (Tartu was then a 'closed' city) & then it was a public B&B for 8 years after it was returned to my husband & his brother. His grandfather, Professor Ants Piip, was one of the Estonian political people to sign the Tartu Peace Treaty which gave Estonia independence from Russia on 2nd February, 1920.
