where to live in LA

Im thinking about moving to down town LA but alot of people have told me is not a good place to live. i will be using public transport everyday and read that its the best location for it. Any advice or recommendations will be very helpful.

Downtown LA is a great place to live. It just really depends on what you are looking for. Where will you be working? What kind of commute will you have? What is your housing budget and what kind of stuff do you want around your area.
