Hello,

After moving to the USA, setting up home and turning your accommodation into your personal abode can be a great way to start off your new life and feel at home. We would like to know whether expats are keen on decorating and furnishing to warm up their space whether for the festive season or all year-round.

Upon renting a new apartment or house in the USA, do you redesign your accommodation to suit your taste? Are your choices influenced by price, climate, etc…?

Have you brought any interior decoration items from your home country or did you consider buying any once in the USA?

As an expat in the USA do you find it worthy to invest in home decor? Could you share what you have bought and perhaps some interesting places to shop for home decor?

How would you describe the local style of decoration? Have you picked up any item which reflects the local style?

Would you be inspired by the festive season to decorate and add a festive touch to your living space?

Thank you for sharing your experience,

I have been a expat before, I am keen on decorating. Actually, everyone would decorate their space when they move to a new place, someone make it simple, someothers design their sapce carefully.

I always decorate my space like what I prefer, the wall, furniture and kitchen stuffs. My choice always influenced by price, I didn't have much money when I study in US, so before I buy something, I would look through price comparison sites, or some coupon site, I can save some money from these site. I'm from China, I know that Chinese seller would sell their product cheaper to foreign country, which wanna attract more customers, so I always choose Chinese seller on amazon, but I only choose the sellers  with a warehouse in the United States, I don't want to wait a long time.

For interior decoration items, It depend on the shape of my room. I never mind where the items come from, as long as it is within my budget.

I put a closet in my room, occupying a whole wall, this can contain lots of my stuffs and keep my space tidy. On the opposite wall, I put a jewlery cabinet, with a mirror, It can contain all my jewelry like earrings, necklaces and makeup supplies, and don't need too much room. I don't like put something that make my sapce looks like smaller. I set up a small bar in a corner, Sometime, I like to chat with friends over drinks,oh, I like collect wineglasses, you can meet lots of them in my home.

There are lots of others furniture, I don't talk about them one by one. When you decorate your space, first you need to know what style you like, which area you may need? reading area? bar? Then you can looking for things online, and compare the price, amazon always be a great place.  Lastly, if you can't sure whether that sofa that you love fits into the space or not, you can use some free planning tool, like IKEA.

If you have something interesting decoration idea, let me know, wanna a try~
