information about having a student visa, and being able to work

Hello, I am an American citizen and I will be moving to Toulouse in February. I have decided that getting a student visa is best because as an opera singer, my contracts are usually between 6 weeks and l two months. This does not qualify me for a long stay visa. I will be living with my boyfriend and we will PACs after one year of living together. I was wondering if anyone had any information about having a student visa, and being able to work. For me, work is singing contract to contract in different places in the EU.

Any advice/help us greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!
