What are requirements to open a bank accuont for foreigner ?

Hello Expats,

I am planning to do masters in KL and I was wondering
if I can open a bank account once I arrive to KL.
What are the requirements and documents required by the banks ?
Do all banks ask for same requirements ?
As a foreigner is there some banks are preferred than others (account opening procedure and ATM availability around) ?

You need to have your Student Visa in your passport and a referral letter from the University. There may be one or perhaps two different banks where the accounts can be opened. It may be a separate application to apply for online banking. The banks always need to see the passport if doing personal banking.
