Agreed. I only estimated a basic monthly expenditure.
I get a year by year visa because I know people but you're right :
visas are a major consideration these days.

As for channels, yes I agree on that one too.
A good gym + good channels can reduce booze and women expenditure.
I pay 990 for the gym.

Yes, motivation and purpose count for a lot.
Also, as I'd made my mind up to live in the LOS,
I wanted a good command of Thai for obvious reasons.

I'm an English teacher so I have a reasonable knowledge
of learning methodology.

Wow! You have opened my eyes. Thanks so much... I'm  46 and have roughly 250,000 US. Im trying to make as long as i can. I have lived in Mindo, Ecuador for a year. Now that was cheap. But not my cup of tea. People were great. Just looking for a step up. I will reevaluate my plans, thanks to you. Thanks again for taking the time to explain the way things are now. I guess a few years ago, it was possible to make it on the cheap. I guess economics hits us all eventually. But hey, im still heading there in a month. What the hell... you only live once. Who knows, maybe  i'll see you in pattaya. First beer is on me.......✌

Robert,
These comments do not apply to you because you said you have money in the bank, but I have often thought about some foreigners that I've seen here who do not appear to have any money at all like the "big legged man" from Germany who begs and they have now banned him. To me, it really doesn't reflect well on the home country when a person like that becomes a nuisance and a "public charge".

I don't mean to offend anyone, but I don't think Thai immigration wants any foreigner here who can't support themselves, just like the US will not grant a visa to anyone without sufficient financial means, so they won't become a "public charge". Thailand is so much more accommodating than the US. You can come in on a 30 day visa exempt stamp without showing any financial means, but they do expect you to leave before the 30 day stamp expires or arrange for an alternative visa to stay.

In my opinion, people really should try to follow the intent of the law and get a work permit if they want to work here or get a retirement visa if they want to retire here or get whatever type of visa is required to remain here past the 30 days. I know there are a lot of foreigners who live here and do the visa runs every month and that's fine if you can afford it, but they should have enough money to support themselves.

I just find it very shameful (of people) who post videos or articles on their websites about them living on 100 THB per day, like they are really doing something great and enjoying life... I will tell anyone, if you're living like that and feel you have to let the world know about it, then that's really sad...

Please don't get offended. I empathize with anyone with less financial means, but people can always work to help support themselves and not live like that, on 100B per day...

Hi all, well im here. Ive found a nice little flat in Chom Thong Village. A nice couple that are shop owners had one above there apt. Everything is good. A bit more than i wanted to pay, but all is well so far. I will stay here a couple of months and then venture further inland to search for a smaller place with less people. Everyone is very friendly here. There are a few expats here, but not many. One said that the further you go inland, the less expats you see. I guess they all like to stay next to the water and the nightlife. I can do without that. Thanks to all who gave me info. Rob signing off........

Hi Gojuken,

I'm in Hua Hin looking for an apt/condo, etc.

I need a pet friendly place (4 kg, 6 yr old dog trained to not bark).

Looking for a place between Soi 88 (Atletic gym) and The Learning Centre school where I will be studying Thai for 6 months or longer

Would you have any ideas or contacts?

thanks a bunch
