Hey there! I'm going to be visiting and working in Shanghai this coming November for a few months. Any tips on areas to live in, food, night life, etc would be greatly appreciated. I'm a musician from Los Angeles so anyone who would want to jam please contact me!

Areas to live in: French Concession, Jingan Temple or People's Square area ( find a metro map and draw a line between Changping road, Zhaojiabang,Madang road and Xinzha Road).Anything withing that area is good.
Food, night life: you will have an excess offer in this areas, it's Shanghai's specialty..food and nightlife

I have been living in China [Zhaoyuan] for over 3 years, spent some time in Shanghai.

General rules for any Chinese city would be:

1) Go down the back alleys. There is so much to discover, heck my kids and I ended up on a Lithuanian Travel Show by venturing down a back alley.

1b) The best local food will be found down these alleys.
