@tancummings please refrain from talking about Islam and any branches regarding it as obviously you’re ignorant. Orfi is admitted in Islam and recognizable when it’s done in the proper method/ way; it’s a procedure. And, at anytime it can be a registered marriage

Misterbig_Ireland
My experience over the last 12 years is that and orfi marriage is a hidden marriage used mostly by men who what to have sex in secret usually with non egyptian women so they won't get arrested. And take advantage of women. Hidden is not good in or out of Islam. If you want a woman then marry in the open and do the right thing. ... I am Muslim..

If he has a good life and a career why would he want to relocate. It's rare to be honest with you, but not all are the same.

Give it some time before marrying him. Get to know him and his  family well. But Egypt is full of scammers and liars. A friend of mine owns an apartment there. I cannot begin to tell you how many times Egyptian men have tried to scam her out of her own home. In her block she has witnessed a young Egyptian gigolo former waiter  scam an elderly woman out of her apartment after deliberately flaunting his other women in her face so she would divorce him and he would get her home.

Another chancer offered to 'manage' her apartment when she returned to Belgium. He was a from a wealthy family who owned two hotels one in Safaga one in Hurghada. So she thought nothing of allowing him to manage it and find tenants for her. So she foolishly gave him the keys.

She even drew up a rental agreement with him to manage the apartment. She heard nothing for months. He used the excuse of 'covid lockdowns' etc and the market was slow, which was nonsense as that area is popular with restaurant and hotels workers needing accommodation .

When she returned she was horrified to find he had locked her out of her own home. Changed the locks. She called a locksmith and was even more disgusted to find the state of the flat, it was in a mess his clothing on the floor, cigarette butts in ashtrays dirty dishes in the sink and what appears to be drug paraphenelia.

She was about to call the police but his friend begged her not to and it would 'be devastating to his elderly mother' and also the reputation of the hotel that family owned in Safaga.

But this is not an isolated case. It is one of many such horror stories. She was not in a relationship with this scammer not at all but she felt she could trust him as he appeared to be businesslike and his family owned two hotels.

There is another lady on here who wrote about following a divorce she returned to Egypt to get a lawyer to help her get the return of her apartment that had been stolen by her ex husband.

All this thieving and scamming is not doing anything to help Egypt's reputation as a country which  you could trust anyone. Even the majority of the solicitors are scammers and will happily take your money and do nothing in return while also taking money from the other side. Nigeria is know as the world's capital of fraud and scams. Egypt which is also in Africa seems to be fast catching up with them.

@Misterbig_Ireland totally agree. As with anything in this world, you can use it the right way or find ways to adjust it to your situation and convince yourself it’s right. Orfi can easily be halal and recognized as a legal marriage, however, when money is in the middle, many ppl lose sight of their values and what they were raised on.
Nice to meet you, read many of your replies and I’ve read you’ve suffered to make yours legal and I applaud you for not taking the shortcut

Egypt is a beautiful country, Sure they have problems as they are living in a large rubbish dump because all of then treat their country like one big thrash bin.

They throw cigarette butts out of their card windows the children discard banana skins and sandwich  wrappings on the floor. If you rent to them they will destry your flat thrash it up abuse your property not pay rent, Nightmare.

@Rosa Jones first off, I understand that majority rules, but if literally you see all Egyptians like that, I believe this is because you’re a ****. Presides, with your Latin or I dunno Mexican background, I’m sure your country is worse and this is why you came here in the first place. ****

Australian not Latin ...

Now c'mon everybody, please stop clashing one another.

2 things are important for this thread to benefit members :

1 - No generalisation (all Egyptians are not the same)
2- Respect the opinion of others even if they differ from yours.

I have moderated some comments and suggest that everyone remain courteous and unbiased.

Thank you have a lovely Sunday,

@hussein86 Hi, and thank you for your helpful post. Please, have you ever heard of an Egyptian man (from Cairo) becoming engaged to a foreign girl he thinks is rich, asking her for thousands of pounds to finish paying off his taxi (bc the taxi owner has a grandmother in the hospital), and then disappearing for three days, after which he has his family tell the foreign girl that he went to prison and needs thousands of pounds for not one but at least three attorneys (bc one of them disappeared without a way to contact him for a refund)? Could he be sincere, struggling financially, and truly in prison for arguing with police officers who stopped him for not having a commercial (mahalliya) license to operate a taxi?

The family also told the girl that he needs 800 pounds of cigarettes bc he can't have money on him at the prison (after he himself asked for a transfer of money to him "in prison," and the family later asked her gor 1000 money to transfer to him in prison, saying they eoulf explain when they saw her in person that day (but forgot).

Is this a common scheme? Come to think of it, looking at these facts all laid out, I think I just answered my own question, but then I don't want to be unfair and just assume. I know she really loves the family (who cooked for her a lot) and wishes she could help more. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Peony_xo

Yes it’s very common, he’s playing her like a fiddle i’m afraid

@Aya26 Run from these people. As fast as you can.

Travelgirl85

@barbaramossakowska1 this is not true! Orfi is accepted by a lot of hotels, I have stayed in a few with my partner. It is true of course that it is not registered and is just a contract between the 2 parties involved. Mine was sent to be authenticated in the court and that is what we showed at check in.

I mean the whole concept of Orfi is terrible and how Egyptian men use it but also for something that has no legal standing, I don't understand why it's so hard to dissolve it?

Aya26

@trasera07 Thank you.

Aya26

@Peony_xo Thanks! That's what the lawyer I called said. He said it also happened to a girl from Hong Kong. People who don't respect others should not be surprised when others disregard them. They could have just told me that they need money.

Hello everyone! I met an Egyptian guy in Luxor, in January and since then, h's been in touch with me. He's never asked for money and we are planning to see each other again. But he sometimes vanishes for 1 or 2 days what I think is very weird. Is it possible to meet him without having any hotel booked? Or to be with him together somewhere? He says it is but after reading all those posts... Is there any chances of getting in trouble? Be a scam?

-@Luciig

sorry to say but if you’re having doubts already it’s not the best start. If he’s from luxor the chance of him being after sex, money and or residence is 95%. I’m in Egypt now we see it all the time

yes you can stay with him but you’ll need to have an orfi “marriage” which I don’t really recommend for various reasons. It’s also not respected by Egyptians and you’ll be treated less than because you agreed to it.

we don’t know the guy well enough but keep us updated, also you didn’t mention whether he’s religious or not

Misterbig_Ireland

@Luciig 1 to 2 days .... he is with his Wife ... he is playing you ... If you just want a good time and company with a married man then this is it ... anything more .... Run ... 🏃‍♀️

Luciig

@Peony_xo

He says he is muslim. He also took me to his house. I met his "mother and sister". He also mentioned the Ramadah.

trishyc67

@Luciig Hi , are you also Muslim or no? Please keep us updated on what's going on with you.

Thanks for the information.

@Peony_xo

I had that impression, but after all things I've read, I'm in a doubt.

trishyc67

@Luciig Hi again, ok, are you planning to get serious with him?

trishyc67

-@trishyc67

Please, don't do anything with him, don't go to hotel with him either. Make him respect you like Egyptian girl. If he gets mad about this, then you know he wasn't serious about you. Don't even kiss him.

I had a very nice Egyptian man rent a room from me.  Very helpful and nice.  Got back w/ his U.S. wife and asked if his friend could take his room?  I said yes and regretted it immediately.  He is arrogant and vulgar.  He is moving out on the first.  The old roommate tried to make excuses for him and said it was probably a translation issue but it wasn't.  It was about inappropriate things ****I realize the first roommate is a citizenship seeker too! The reason he went back to his wife is because she didn't show up for his immigration hearing.  Yeah... these guys are just scroungy users.  If you get a gut feeling something isn't right, trust it.  We were given instinct to protect ourselves.  I do not think Egyptian men are bad people but I certainly don't have a good impression of them now.

Meeting his family is crucial ! It shows he respects you. It shows you who his family are , the home that he comes from etc etc plus in his religion I feel he wouldn't bring you home to his family if it wasn't an honest relationship! Just be careful
