How many would be a sufficient salary in Oslo for a family of 3?

Hi there,

I'm Amir from Shiraz, Iran. I am planning to move to Oslo, Norway as a doctoral researcher. My salary would be at least NOK 432700 per year, I need to support a family of 3 (having a child of 8 years of age) and my wife will be studied for a master degree. Due to high price levels in Norway, Would you please let me know the amount of sufficient salary monthly to live comfortably in Oslo (before tax)?
Also, I think we will buy a home in Oslo after arriving. do you recommend it or rent?
I found some similar posts but there are for 2015 and before. I want to know based on the up to date expenses so I ask again.

Note that you are unable to get 100% loan to purchase property. I was told some local banks hesitate to give loan to foreigners and will ask for higher egenkapital (capital contribution).

Rent in Oslo city is currently very high.....so unless you are after convenience (your work is in the city and no car etc), it is very expensive to rent or buy home in oslo city.
