Traffic in Qatar

Hello everyone,

Which city or area do you live in in Qatar, and how do you find the traffic?

How long does it take to commute to work or run errands?

Is there a rush hour in your city? What times of the day would you recommend people to avoid driving if they can?

Are there any ways to avoid spending too much time in traffic in Qatar?

What is parking availability and cost like?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Travel by car is always an ordeal in Doha. The standard of driving is appalling. They are just completing a program of ripping up roundabouts and replacing them with traffic lights because the drivers couldn't get the concept of giving way in a roundabout and everybody following the same rules. The road network is seemingly designed to create pinch points at roadwork/ construction sites.
There is just about zero public transport but they are building a rail system which is costing as much as a moon landing but this is years off completion.
Main message:(1) get accommodation close to where you work (2) get an extra big St Christopher medal for your car (3) cycling is suicidal (4) if you have an accident it will automatically be your fault if the other driver is local.

Hi Priscilla,

Nevertheless, Qatar is a small country crowded by people all over, talking of traffic jam that is just but another unspeakable nightmare, I did my statistics and found out that the sum of motor vehicles could be possibly higher than human rate here in Qatar.

Honestly I hate Qatar organization and its governing policy, I can say that Qatar needs more time to develop and improve itself from many other aspects compared to other nations....

Qataris are more concern of the luxury they own i.e cars, buildings, infrastructure and many other materialistic things, this is a Muslim nation and they should indeed focus on justice of foreigners, living style of foreigners e.t.c.... but they really do not give a fuck about anyone else out there.

I realized one thing which is, people that live and work here specially from Africa, Europe & America when they leave here and off to vacation, never think of coming back here due to the kind of poor life they encountered here in Qatar and if Qatar citizens will not change their way of living, thereby it will loose more opportunities like Olympics, world cup and more...

Now I am working in a company that failed to pay salary for almost 4-7 months which is absurd in reality thinking of looking for a job now which I am not assured of one or fly out of this place...

Anyway thanks for sharing,

Kind regards

I can handle traffic, it is part if modern day life. What I cannot stand in Doha are: drivers in Landcruisers/ Lexus/ Nissan Patrol that are constantly texting while attempting to drive through you, furiously flashing their lights, when there's nowhere for you to go. These same drivers that would blatantly ignore stop signs, refuse to use indicators, allow kids to stand on the back seat, whilst driving like lunatics, push into queues then sneer at you for not stopping in your tracks from 60km/h when they swerve directly in front of you! Same drivers that start hooting when you don't drive in front of oncoming traffic, like they do.... ! Then don't get me started on delivery vans, light delivery trucks, taxis and "limousines", usually Toyota Camry.

Apart from that, all good!

Hey everyone, i live in doha the traffic can be bad sometimes. The roads here are like ring shapes the busiest road are the D ring road C ring road and the doha express way they are too busy after 6 early morning and after 6 evening. The Cornish road is too busy over the weekend so u may want to choose another road but i dont usually advise that coz u can get lost easily here if u dont know the city really well coz of the road work to build an infra structure for the country. Puplic transportation is not available everybody here just drive which is easier renting a car is easy and cheap. In some places it us very difficult to find parking but mostly it is free. U pay in some malls for the parking but it is very cheap. Dont worry about that. Becareful accidents here are very common but if u drive with care and follow traffic rules u wont have any issues since traffic regulation here is very expensive. Like exceeding the speed limit coyld go as high as 150 dollars. Hope i was helpful enough

For busuresti, no traffic compared to qatar, the city is so big and so wide that you will find maybe 10 to 20 maximum stopping in the signals in rushing time, in other hours, it is very cooooolll,-- but now i m back to qatar.. :D
