Raising kids in Paraguay

Post new topic

Hello everyone,

How is raising kids in Paraguay different from raising kids in your home country?

What are the activities that your kids seem to enjoy the most in Paraguay?

Do you feel that the country is "family-friendly"?

Do you recommend Paraguay as a good place to raise kids? Why or why not?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Priscilla,
I grew up in Paraguay (South Asian parents), lived in the US for 22 years, and now I live in South Korea (where I teach history at an American-International school). I'm a classic TCK. my parents still live in Paraguay and I am currently buying an apartment there. We spend all our summers there.

Paraguay is, in my very humble opinion, a phenomenal place to raise kids. When my contract in S Korea ends, I fully plan on moving my two daughters there. While we only come during the summers, my girls have a TON of friends in Paraguay. The society is open and friendly, and foreigners are appreciated. There are some exceptions, and I can PM you about some better choices in terms of schools. Compared to Brazil and even Argentina, Paraguay is safe.

Downsides? No good museums (if that is your thing; as a history teacher it really is mine!). Arts are present, but not as strong as in other places.

All in all, it is a great place to raise kids.
