Biological father gone

Post new topic

Hi expats!😊

I need help from you guys. I'm pregnant and the biological father has left already. I met this wonderful guy and knows my current status. He is willing to marry me and step in as the father of my child.

My question is, since he is not the biological father, will my unborn child carry his name when we get married before I give birth? No offense to my current partner but I don't want my unborn child carry his name. I want the baby to carry my last name.  Does it mean we have to wait til i give before we get married?

Thanks in advance 😘

From what I understand from your post (and let me know if I have missed anything); there are a few issues that you need to consider:

1) If you are pregnant and unmarried in Bahrain; you (and your partner) will face legal issues after giving birth - as in risk of imprisonment and / or deportation
2) If you get married before you give birth, your partner will be listed as the father on the birth documents (read point one above)
3) If you want the baby to have your name; the only way is to go back to your home country, deliver there, list the father as unknown, get passports for the baby, sponsor the baby to come to bahrain yourself (if you have a profession / job that allows you to do so) or marry your partner, have him legally adopt the baby and then do the sponsorship

At the end of the day, be aware of the legal risks of giving birth here in the GCC if you are unmarried.

Thanks XTang for your reply. You helped me a lot by clearing everything to me 🙂
