Hi there cost of living in Australia has sky rocketed at the moment is one of the most expensive countries to live in comparing with Europe and Americas .
Rent in Brisbane which is cheaper than Sydney o Melbourne is minimum $450 per week in a unit with 2 beds. Houses are more expensive.
Electricity is $120 per month.
Petrol $ 1.44 a lt
Bus $7
Cinema is $ 12 to 19 each depending on location
Weekly groceries including very basics for 2 people $200 including fruit $60 and meat for 3 days $40.
Average take away is $20 one meal
In average for 2 people a very basic living cost is $1000 per week

How much does it cost to rent an apartment or a house in Australia?
Dependent on suburbs, but generally cheaper than other states to rent or buy.
City - Average $400/wk (apartment)
Outside city <15km - Average $150/wk (room in a shared house)

How much does it cost to buy an apartment or a house in Australia?
City - $400k minimum for newly built apartments
Near city - $650k for house above
>10km away - $450 - $500k for house
<15km<25km - $380k for house

How much do you pay on average for public transportation (bus, subway, train, tram, taxi)?
Adult fare is $121+ for 28 days pass, unlimited travel

How much do you pay for basic food items such as rice, bread, and pasta?
Food is generally ok if you shop in asian groceries and aldi. Do not buy asian stuffs from major supermarkets as they are very expensive there.
Asian groceries - $11 for 5kg rice
Aldi - Bread <$2, pasta <$1

What is your monthly budget for groceries?
$100 for one person, to prepare dinner, lunch and brekke

How much does it cost to see a doctor/dentist/physician/specialist in Australia?
I've never seen a doctor - easier to self medicate from local chemist warehouse pharmacy. To see a doctor here, you will need to make an appointment.
Dentist is about $150 minimum

How much does it cost to fill up your car’s fuel tank?
Usually $40 per tank. Bigger cars = more fuel = more cost. Get a small economical hatchback. not an SUV!

How much do you pay for electricity/gas/water etc., per month?
$50 with solar, water and gas about $100 per month

How much do you pay for your internet and phone subscription?
Mobile broadband - $40 15GB, available only to long time customer (5yrs)

How much do you pay for your lunch pack on weekdays?
I pack my own lunch, it only cost be less than $3 to do it myself, rather than $15+ for lunch in the city.

How much do you pay for an espresso coffee?
I don't drink coffee. It usually cost $3.5 for a small cup.

How much do you pay for a cinema ticket?
$12 per ticket.

How much does a gym membership cost in Australia?
$16/ forthnight in Goodlife

Generally, the cost of living is increasing in Adelaide. However, if you spend below your means and safe more rather than spending all your paycheck, you will live life comfortably. You will save a lot by not eating out and packing or cooking your own lunch/dinner.
