First month in Saudi

Experiences may vary, Inshallah, and coffee. These are the staples of your existence in this country as I've experienced this far. Mostly warm, welcoming people, opportunities to have fun if you are a pleasant person to be around and don't mind networking. Traffic is on a non stop mission to kill you and a "you can't get there from here" road infrastructure is nationwide. It's like someone let their 5 year old kiddo play Sim City come to life. Some things are super cheap, and others are waaaay overpriced. If you have an APO great, if not be prepared to wait up to a month and beware shipping electronic devices (they disappear "inexplicably" in the mail system). Compounds are by far and away the preferred accommodation, but if you're company does not provide them be prepared for a tremendous upfront. So far I like it just fine but everyone is different. I think I'll stay a while, or at least as long as the Saudis hospitality endures.

Few notes from a person who had this experience a year ago :)
1) Traffic will try to kill you only during the first 2-3 months. Later you will get used to it, and when you go home for a holiday - you will be surprised why people at your home country drive so strange.
2) Many compounds do not request a huge upfront payment for now. You can already find offers with monthly or quarterly payments. Yes, it is a crisis here, so they started decreasing prices and providing more comfortable payment terms.
