Hello, everybody

My name is Ligita, I'm Lithuanian.

Currently live in Deux Freres and enjoy the life in a small village.

the ability to enjoy little things
a strong sense of community,
sharing ...
it’s simply wonderful!

I would like to move to Mauritius,
Looking for a new job, new friends,  new start.

If somebody  can share their experience, advices, observations - yes! Please! Would be very happy .

Hi Sapna,

It will all depends on how to put forward the dance you will be teaching so that it is considered "a little bit risqué!" :)

Mauritius has been and is evolving and am sure that they will take it as a passion if you put that in a proper way to explain and show...

Wish you success with this one!

Sunny

Hello world!
I present myself Mr. Veerraj, I am indeed a mauritian, residing in the north of the island (Trou aux biches) I can speak, english, french, hindi, bhojpuri and mauritian creole obviously.
So anyone residing near me, having issues in particular things that I can hel, i will help as far as I am able to. No worries beautiful people, Mauritius is like any normal country, neither near nor far from perfect.
It is just that... all you got to do is know how to live, e.g being friendly is better than being over friendly.
Meaning anything you do  here, do it legally and wisely and I am sure it wont take long to adapt here.
Cheers .. wish you all good luck and best wishes.

Regards
Veerraj.

Hi Everyone, I am new to expat.com, I have been considering relocating to Mauritius for some time now and I am in the process of gathering as much information as possible.
My siblings and I, run a family owned manufacturing business here in SA and I am considering opening up a branch in Mauritius. If anyone could provide any information or tips or pointers I'd appreciate it very much :) Thank you.

hennievanderwesthuizenkempston.co.za

Hi Louise

I've done so much research - I have a massive file of information , I think you are right about chatting to someone who has done the same thing will be super helpful. Thanks for the reply - wishing you and your wife the utmost success with your move.

Hi Louise,

It depends:
1) Do you want the subsidiary in Mauritius to supply/sell to the market in Mauritius, or
2) Will the subsidiary just run the business from Mauritius, but not sell in the local market? Basically like a head office of back office.

Regards,
Carla

LouiseMatthyser

Hi Carla:)

At this point - I'm considering both options to get an idea of which route would be best moving forward, either a manufacturing plant in Mauritius to which I export to SA or the head office in Mauritius. i want to explore all scenarios to eliminate the options that won't work for me. I've researched the 4 options to setup namely the Global Business License Type 2 (GBC2), and GBC1, Mauritius Limited Liability partnership (this one isn't really an option for me) then the Freezone company and the branch option - I sourced these business entities available for foreigners, are there any other options?

I think I'm basically searching for someone on expat.com who has applied for these before and what was their experience with it :)

hennievanderwesthuizenkempston.co.za

Hi Louise

If you are looking to employ, please keep me in mind.

Hi Hennie

I would be happy to, however this project will only be moving forward in a year's time.
i'm just busy getting my ducks in a row so as to avoid rush decisions and inadequate planning.

Best of luck :)

KatkaB

Hi everyone! I am Kate and I have been living in Mauritius since April with my husband and my son, who is now 8 months old. I would like to meet other expat or local mums and learn more about activities for mothers/families with children in or around Flic en Flac. If there are any baby playdates during the day, I would be happy to join them :)
Thank you :)

hennievanderwesthuizenkempston.co.za

Hi Louise

No problem , if it comes to the time and I am still in SA , please speak to me. I have very good experience in both finance and logistics.

Hello, my name is Charles. I am trying to get all my ducks in a row so that I can move to Mauritius to marry my lady sometime in July, once I obtain my college degree in Operations Management/Transportation & Logistics. I would really appreciate any helpful advice on the process of entering the country on a marriage visa, as I don't relish the thought of spending ~40 hours getting there only to be rejected because I overlooked something. I look forward to meeting you all.

Mieke Godfrey

Hi all :)

I am currently living in Johannesburg South Africa and my husband and I are very seriously considering immigrating to Mauritius with our two children.

I have been doing my best to go through the forum topics to try and make sense of the process but everyone's situations are so unique. I would very much appreciate some advice on the process as well as the timeline and costs involved.

I have already been to this link - http://www.investmauritius.com/work-live/op.aspx

My husband would be applying for a self employed Occupation permit, and we understand the costs involved. Our hope however, was that we would not have to pay SA tax in this case. He is not an SA citizen, he is from the UK, but he has been paying SA tax with his current position. Can anyone please shed some light on this, would he have to pay SA tax as we have been advised that he would have to even though he would not be working for an SA company, and he is not an SA citizen. If this is true, is our only option to do a financial immigration? We are currently

Should we not have to pay SA tax, there is no need for me to work and I can spend more time with our children and looking after the family as a whole. We are looking for a more relaxed lifestyle, things are just too crazy where we are, not to mention the high crime-rate in SA.

Besides the obvious costs such as permits, agents fees, and shipping our belongings, what other costs might one not be aware of when considering immigrating?

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Mieke

GuestPoster31021

Hi Mieke,

The law still stands if you are out SA for more than 180 days of the year you will be exempt from income tax. They are about to legislate annual income threshold of 1 million rand being exempt from income tax and anything above that being taxable. I also think you are not being advised correctly in that if your husband is not a SA citizen SARS has no hold on him unless you are putting money back in SA, but the above still stands.

Mieke Godfrey

Hi Bruce

Thanks  for your reply, I appreciate it.

I think we need to contact a tax specialist to ensure we don't get ourselves into trouble here.

How long have you lived in Mauritius for? Are you able give advice on any additional costs I may not be aware of over and above the permit fees, agents fees, shipping? Did you make use of a lawyer?

GuestPoster31021

Hi Mieke,

I can talk about the taxation because I have been working as an expat in Africa for a couple of years. Unfortunately I cannot give you much feed back on relocation costs etc, only been on the Island for a month and as a single I don't have anything to freight in just hit the ground and find my way.

Sorry
Bruce

Mieke Godfrey

Hi Bruce

Thanks, no problem, I understand :)
