Jill it would help if you mention where you got married.  Seeing that you are American, I'll guess that you were married in the USA?  Getting the Apostille on a marriage certificate can vary from state to state.

Vitalchek.com is a good resource to use to order one in many cases.

Hi!

We got married in Seattle Washington and have a certified marriage license from the county office, but was told I needed the original and it had to be certified by the US government with a apostile (sp) and I need to know if anyone else has gone through this and what they did to to get it okayed so they could get their resident card.

Thanks,

Jill

Try the Vitalchek route, they are fast and reliable!  I've used them before.

p.s- You need your original Marriage certificate with Apostille attached, not the marriage license.  The license allows one to get married, the certificate proves that the marriage actually took place.

Had the same problem going the other way; Texas didn't like the Romanian paperwork, despite it being in Romanian, French, and English.

Honestly, it's easier just getting married again.  My wife and I have done it three times: Romania, Germany, and Texas.

I like marrying her.  Best wife ever!

Thanks!  You are correct.  I have an official marriage certificate coming from the US with an Apostille for Romania.
