ID Cards - how long currently?

you collect them from ID malta they just send you a letter to tell you its ready to be collected
i think mine took 3 weeks.

Have you tried calling them?

We spoke to them a week or so ago... they said it's taking a bit longer than usual because of christmas...

To open a bank account you can just use your passport, it does take longer to open one though.

for my id card  i wait for 4 monts... it is relative some wait 6 month some 4 weeks it is not have rules ...

Keep on at them. Officials are famous for not being on quick

Actually, it's over 3 months ago !  But i've just been told that someone who applied in October only just got theirs through... :-(

SimCity ... i'll look into that; we'd done all the (other) processes, just waiting on the cards, maybe we should restart with the passport...

E Residence cards can take any length of time, this year may take longer as a lot are due for renewal.

It just took my wife 6(!) months. My renewal just took 3 months.

I applied for mine 14th December, received the notification in the post that it was ready for collection on 15th January.

Were they able to confirm on the phone that your application was still in progress .. ? Just in case the letter went missing in the post ...

Our new ones just took 6 weeks.

Change of address new cards are quite often quicker.

It probably makes a difference if you apply in Gozo as opposed to Malta.

I'd like to know which bank allows one to use their passport. BoV will only accept eResidence card, even the paper indicating one has registered is not enough. Still waiting on the card as well and unable to start an account.

We opened our account with Banif, now BNF, with a passport, that was five years ago so things may have changed.

BNF would be the best shot, although I think I needed my ID card when I signed up at end of 2016.

One suggestion: if you don't specifically need a Maltese account for some reason, perhaps try Revolut. Simple app, you can get a Visa card as a result, along with a EU bank account which some employers will pay into as it's a SEPA account. Not a perfect solution but a possible alternative for those wanting a EU account that don't necessarily need a Maltese account.

Postapay and Save account from Maltapost will accept the e-ID receipt when applying, less hassle than the banks but no online access to the account, otherwise it does function as a normal bank account.

Well, I took responsibility back from my husband, who'd been looking after it, and I called 2 days ago to follow up.  We got the letter in the post yesterday to go pick them up.  Hubby was certain that the actual cards would be sent out to us, but I was just very happy to hear they'd be ready :-)  That was 2 days less than 3 months between application and receipt.

You always have to go and pick them up, otherwise they could get lost in the post.

My postman said that he delivers them; i would have had to give him the temporary form in exchange (and show id too i think); he made sure to point it out so that i didn't throw out the form ...  so they definitely do deliver at least some of them!

We have always picked ours up.

Unless they have changed the rules in the last twelve months, your postman is mistaken, you have to go and collect them in person and show your passport.

Yeah this would be very weird.

Also note that you can't pick it up without the letter in the post, so I'm not sure what happens in the event the letter gets lost. Maybe they just resend it. I accidentally left the letter at home and they refused to give the card without it as they stated it is their means of verifying my address, so that letter has more value than just a notification.

We applied in July last year and they weren’t ready until December!!
In the mean time we used the letter (with the ID number on that they gave us on the day we applied) to register a car, join the library, etc.

Thanks. I just phoned up yesterday and my eResidence card is still being processed and I applied in December, so it takes sometime. I am happy to read the experiences of others as it helps with stress. Will take the paper with and start applying for other necessary things. Best regards, Beth

That’s the whole point of the letter is that you can use it until you get notification your card is ready to be collected.

my change of address collection letter came back today so that was a month exactly.
now i have to go collect.

Did anyone apply recently for working permit?
Just to know what I can expect, how long I'll wait, so far 2 months and from immigration can't take any info. Only what they told me it's in the process and repeating that every time when I ask.
