This Seems to be Turning into a Jobs Forum

Post new topic

Zeus.wmo

It seems recently that more people from outside are inquiring about jobs and are asking for help with finding jobs on this forum.  I counted 10 different posts within the last week on the topic.  It appears that most of the people asking have done very little if any research on their own by the questions they are asking.  Maybe some expats don't mind responding to every post on the topic, but I find it uninteresting... especially since I'm a retired expat...

I wish there were more posts from future expats that are actually planning to move here or are in the process of moving here or are currently living here.... and, maybe more topics regarding the expat lifestyle, Thai culture and Thai people rather than jobs related topics...

Just my thoughts...  I will keep hoping for more interesting topics...
Kindly... Zeus

I can sympathize with the first point.  I've been a member of this forum for many years, through many countries and have to say that, as time goes by, newbies seem to be getting lazier and not doing any research and hoping the answers will just pop out from someone else.

As to the last point, Zeus, it's also not a retirement-only forum, which you seem to imply would be more interesting - at least to you.

If you don't find a post or topic interesting, by all means, ignore it.

I, for one, often will take a newbie behind the woodshed for asking trite questions that are already answered many times over.

I answer those questions that seem to be unique or have a different perspective or point of view, like the math teacher from Australia.  His questions - while about looking for jobs - are from a unique point, so I think he merits a response.

If you don't...remember what grannie said, "Silence is Golden".  Enjoy retirement.  I envy you.

Great reply... respectful, insightful and on point...
Thanks...

My main observation of this site is that it tries to cover the entire globe and thus does nothing particularly well.  The Thailand forum only has a handful of contributors and the questions posed by moderators, meant to generate discussion, are so generic it suggests they have never even been to Thailand and know nothing about how things work here.

There are several other Thailand specific forums which cover Thailand in greater depth with a variety of sub-forums like visa, news, photography, farming, language, sports, building and the list goes on but not everyone has the temperament to wade through those sites.

We just don’t have the membership or resources to cover Thailand in any depth so we skim the surface with superficial questions repeated ad nauseam and the occasional spat between members of different persuasions.

Hi Everyone! :)

As a future expat, I have done extensive research on the internet about Thailand. Even started to learn some Thai. Sometimes it is just imperative to get some inside information from someone already living in Thailand. As you all know Thailand is not widely advertised on the internet, just for holidays. And with the visa rules constantly changing, a little more information are always much appreciated. I still do think it is better to go to Thailand and look for a job, home or whatever while you are there. But that is just my opinion. Many will probably look for some security by finding a job first.

Remember what you find uninteresting because you lived for a long time in Thailand, may be valuable information for a new expat. Just my 2 cents! :)

There seems to be a forever ongoing misconception that this site is a door way to a job in Thailand. And many times, in many ways, people have been informed that it is not. So be it and let it go. This will probably never stop.

The recent in demand jobs topic was a good Stab in the dark but has not yielded anything surprising so far. The only major change I have ever noticed from this forum is the name. Was previously called expatsomething???? And I believe they then changed it to just https://www.expat.com. great name but content is lacking.
