Building a new home in Gozo / Malta

Hi there!
I'm originally from Australia with Maltese parents. Have now settled in Malta. I'm looking to buy some land to build my dream home. Has anyone had any experience with the builders in Malta/ Gozo? I have heard some nightmare stories of bad workmanship/ unreliable builders etc and want to hear the truth from the fiction. If anyone has any direct experience or advice it would be most welcome. Any advice like builders (not just mates but someone who you know has done great work), or great architects.

I was thinking of getting some land in Marsalforn or Nadur in Gozo or maybe somewhere in Malta (Mid to North of island). Looking at about 1/2 tumoli of land.
