Government Bonus in Wages

Hey all, me again!

This is something I've been happily accepting but have no idea about and I think it's about time I tried to find out!

Every few months I get a 'government bonus' in my wages. Always a different and seemingly random amount- any ideas what this is for & how its calculated?

Is this done on the employers side? As I now work for a Swedish company who are new to Malta and if they're not aware of it, I'd hate to miss out!

Any information on this would be great. I tried googling it but I'm quite impatient. If I don't see the answer immediately then I'm certain it's not there!

Thanks everyone.

This link gives you a quick description of what the bonus is and what the amounts are.  The amounts are described as "fixed", though how long they are fixed for, and by what method, is not stated.

The link doesn't get you very far, however, on what the heck the bonus is supposed to be for, or about, or why it's paid at all.  Perhaps best just to take the money and run.

BTW, if you want speedy results when Googling Maltese topics, then using the local version, www.google.com.mt , can help.  It allows you to filter down to just pages from Malta, which can be useful.

Is the bonus enough for an extra Cisk ?

Let's get together again and spend your  bonus -)))

I want a bonus too !

I am not sure the reason why the bonus is paid (maybe to make us feel not so shitty that the ministers give themselves high pay rises?) and it's given every 3 months. The calculation is a bit complicated, they consider the amount of days you worked in a 6 month period around that payment month and give it to you pro-rata. Something like that lol :)

And as far as I know, this is given by law so your Swedesh company must pay it as well.

heheaa

K so I worked from april, so I got a bonus a month or so ago, but will I get one for July aswell? I know it's supposed to be paid in September, but I only worked for 1/3th of the "period" so maybe I'll get 1/3th of the money?
:)
(Won't work anymore after July)

are you sure its a bonus and not the COLA (cost of living allowance) that every worker gets paid usually every three months

COLA is a mandatory salary adjustment that is made by employers every January. The amount is announced in the budget and is expressed as a weekly rate.
