Asked to send original documents including passport to China

I've been accepted for a job and I've done the whole documents gathering, notarizing, taking them to the consulate and sending them to the school's visa officer electronically. It felt like I was done and that they were applying for my Z-Visa invitation letter. Two weeks later I'm asked to send all my original documents to them by mail including my Passport.

I've done some searching online about the process and I've seen every other thing I've done mentioned but not this, and I was initially surprised that I was expected to mail my passport overseas like that. It might be a new rule in action? Just wanted to check if this is normal or if anyone has any thoughts.

Please do not do what they asked you to do. If you have your visa, then fly to China and go straight to the employer. Never hand over your passport to anyone except to the Police when applying for the Police registration for foreigners living in China. Otherwise, verify the school status. Is it a school or a language center?

thankyou for your response I clarified further with the company and it was a misunderstanding, I don't need to send the passport
