it depends a lot on what you define as a good lifestyle. With a similar salary I was affording to rent a small apartment on my own in one of the best neighborhoods right behind slottsparken, dining out occasionally, plenty of travel domestically and in Europe, gym membership, and save enough for a big down payment when I finally bought in the center. I didn't do much in the way of nightlife and drinking though, which will quickly burn money in this city! I also didn't own a car, another big expense here.

Basically, I would say at that salary you can expect a pretty worry free existence if you have reasonable expectations for life in Oslo.

Thanks for such an emotional and detailed reply. I think my lifestyle is quite similar to what you just mentioned (hence an emotional reply for me), so I believe it would be quite a fun in Oslo.
Just one more query on the same notes, if car expenses are high what are the usual means of transport across Norway/Sweden that you opt for.

Depends on why you're crossing the border. There are trains to places like göteborg, and if you want to shop there are "Harry tour" buses. Or friends with cars who will share fuel costs.

But now my husband has a car so we do just drive.

Hey, so how hard it is to get a driving permit in Norway.

do you have any license at all? It's definitely one of the stricter countries, and getting a license from scratch is very expensive, requiring theory hours, several hours of driving time with a licensed instructor, special extension driving lessons (for icy conditions and night time driving), and an exam.
