Who, if anyone knows, is the better provider to have for reliable internet service in the  Fajardo area.
Writer,  it's  a must.
TIA

The best one would be Liberty, but it depends on where you live. Liberty does not cover all parts of a town. There is also Claro, but they have terrible customer service.

Yup conforming what ray is saying
Liberty service the best.  I have refused to move to houses because liberty service usnt available.  We make the mistake once bit finding out before renting and had no choice but to get claro.   Its seldomly workwd, it was extremely slow and one time we even lost it for a month, because they said someone cut the line.  They said they had no cable and was waiting for it.  How is this even possible.  Wasnt like we had a disaster at the time either. Another problem is if you only speak english they hang up on you.  You have to go to the office when you have issues.

Sitka

I had liberty, lots of problems with outages, after Maria, dumped Liberty and went with Directv. No problems so far.

Okay, thanks guys. I'm just needing American television stations and Wi-Fi. I'll Google liberty, thank you.

BABY J

American TV? Seems like a Firestick and LIberty would be a good combo for you,

Guestposter351

Lol....I'm addicted to a couple of HBO shows. Basic cable I should have said. I can always catch up with Austin Texas thru friends.

ReyP

I have Internet only and signed up to Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime. Different stations also have apps that you can use to watch news, you can subscribe to HBO also using Internet only service. But you can also get a cable service or Direct TV and others if you are interested in regular tv channel packages.

I use my browser a lot for news.

I live in Ocean Club At Seven Seas and I have Liberty. Seems like to only viable option for fast relatable Internet especially if you want to stream video.

I am starting to experiace around with setting up a Mesh network.  If you have line of site maybe we can share internet.

Sitka,

Are you getting Internet through Direct TV?

I was searching Internet and Mobile Service Pricing before we move and the ATT/Direct TV Rep said that Direct TV could not provide Internet thru their Satellite at this time.

Was planning on going with Liberty as has been suggested, but due to our business being so internet dependent, I wanted a backup. If Direct TV is not an option, I may have to get Hughs Net.

ReyP

Where we are staying (AirbnB home) they have Hughs net connection and the connection really sucks. We get a lot of disconnections and buffering on streaming. It is probably ok for emails and SSH service. It could be a problem with orientation but it really sucks.
Ping: 614 (Huge)
Download: 1.04 mbps

I do better with my phone provided hotspot withT-Mobile connection for streaming.

If you can get Liberty business, that is the way to go. There is also Claro but I heard they have lousy customer support.

Thanks Rey!

It is sounding like we will probably wind up deciding where to live and setup and office, based on how good the Internet Service is in an area.

I know there are alot of issues that that the PR Gov is addressing, but I hope that they are also working to have more Fiber Optics brought to the Island and more FO installed around the Island.

It has gotten to where good reliable and fast internet is almost as important as electricity for alot of businesses.

ReyP

Metro area if important, also some parts have fiber in the metro area.

Each company has its own prices and most companies have different speeds at different prices. You get the service available to your street and or condo building.

Before you decide on a rental or purchase, knock on some doors ask about the internet they are getting and the speed if they know it. If you are lucky enough to find a place where you have options, then do research / call them for prices. But likely you have 2 choices, Claro and something else. Not many choices.

Olgahice

It sounds like you have some experience, so how much is the service you prefer?

ReyP

I have 2 or 3 possible options, 1 is Claro which is 59 a month for 30 megabits but most people say they have horrible service, There is HughNet which is satellite, 25 megabits for 50, however there is a point after which their unlimited is downgraded to 1-3 megabits. Then there is aeronet which is microwave, for 30 megabits they want 150 a month, you have to be in a location with line of sight to one of their microwave towers. No other services my area. At the moment I do not have a contract with neither one, I am still talking to them to see which works better for me. Mean time I am using my t-mobile phone hot spot capability to give wifi to the rest of my devices.

Do any of these carriers allow you to suspend service periodically for a vacation home?  I would prefer not to pay for 12 months of service if I am likely to be at my house for only 2 or 3 months out of the year.

ReyP

Most of these services require a contract 1-3 years and charge for disconnecting. I do not believe, but I could be wrong that you can stop service anytime without incurring charges. You will need to call them and see if they have additional arrangements.
