Schools have all been given notification to evacuate all their students with immediate effect in Riyadh on account of an impending sandstorm this afternoon

Parents are rushing to take their kids home now as we speak - 12 Noon May 1 2011

Its been confirmed that like yesterday evening a severe sand storm is expected later today.

The sun is shining at present...but there are clouds!!

musicman

Apparently they do have information from their weather people that the sandstorm will hit the city by afternoon. It is quite nice and pleasant right now as I look out of my office window in Olaya.

PNU has already evacuatedall its students.
Manarat International is in the process of calling parents and sending the kids home. My grandson has gone home already while his Mum and Aunt, who are both teachers there, have to stay back until all the kids have left.
Horizon International in Olaya is also evacuating as I just heard from my wife who runs the KG section there.
Looks like all Hells gonna break loose this evening.
God Save us!

I was caught up in last evenings storm where the vehicle right in front of me on Othman bin Affan Street approaching exit 7 was hit by a falling lamp post and suffered terrible damage. We managed to dodge the aftermath and get home quick. It was around 630pm.

Just received an sms from the Ministry of Interior stating zero visibility on the highways due to a dust storm coming down on Riyadh from the North West (Qassim).

naazg

Yes I am start getting the SMS as well.

"Civil Defense warns everyone to take caution of the vulnerability of Visibility due to thick dust up to the semi-lack of vision on the area of Riyadh, Where its impact begins from the Northern Part of Western and even the capital Riyadh"

Came back up to Riyadh from Al Kharj on two days this week , on 1st and 4th May due to severe sandstorm warnings being issued .Advised to leave work early . Combined with rain this is is a lethal cocktail when driving.
