Hi Everyone,
Can we convert the GCC  logo Driving licence issued from Oman to UAE.
Pls suggest
Regards

There is no direct conversion in the UAE for GCC license holders who are expats.  You will enroll in a driving institute and they will send you forward for a test.  If you pass, you will get the UAE license.  If not, then you will have to do a number of classes.

However, in 2017, they stopped even this due to GCC duplicate license fraud issues.  You had to do initial theory training, an assessment test before they sent you for a road test.  Cost incurred was AED 2,200.

Check with the institute.

Hi @XTang, seems like the duplicate license issue had made everything crazier than usual with license conversion. What happened actually, and what were the key events that changed everything?

I don't know the full story but it seems that there were fake licenses turning up from other GCC countries and / or duplicate licences that were issued when valid and surrendered for conversion in multiple countries (e.g. original given to convert in qatar and duplicate given to convert in UAE).

Yes @XTang, what's currently happening (at least as of July 2018) in Oman is that only Saudi license requires an additional verification from Saudi traffic police during conversion process.

The verification process takes an additional 1 month time, as opposed to the usual same-day conversion. I suspect there were many cases involving Saudi license, for this to happen.

In Oman up until July 2018, other GCC licence aside from Saudi license can still be converted provided they're manual transmission driving license.
