What documents are requested to open a bank account?

WinstonH

Depends on what type of account you are looking to open, what currency you are going to process transactions, which market you are targeting if you are a business person.

Each bank has specific and tailor made services for each type and profile of client.

Basic documents required for a personal account:

(a) Passport
(b) Proof of address (if in Mauritius, you also need to provide your residency permit)
(c)  Tax account number in your country of origin
(d)  Bank reference letter (from your bank in your country)
(e)  Some banks require your CV

If for a company, you'd require an additional bunch of documents.

I would recommend MCB

Intelitégen

MCB retail (i.e. for individuals), has 3 service levels: general, select and private, depending on how deep your pocket is. MCB is definitely the best bank for retail, with the largest network of ATMs around the island. It is also the largest stock by market cap on the stock exchange of Mauritius.
Happy to guide you on opening an account.

State Bank of India has better rate of interest on fixed deposits. MCB is efficient but overly fussy. The employees seem very arrogant.
