How can I make my move livable?

Post new topic

Pue

Hello everybody,

I just moved to Kuwait a few days ago after living in Dubai for the last 7 years. I am an Editor-in-Chief and I enjoy photography, arts, music, movies and reading.

I am finding it real hard to adjust and would welcome all your tips and suggestions to make this move livable.

Thanks

Armand

Hi and welcome on Expat.com Pupina :)

well, im gonna go out on a limb here and hazard a guess that u find the "dullness" overwhelming? compared to dubai, the new city that never sleeps, with its art shows, music festivals, celebrity sightings etc?

kuwait does have some things to offer. its all about the group you mingle with. there are groups that organise events etc, theres a dance event on May 26 for example, theres Deniz, the dance-extraordinaire + Karaoke enthusiast (May 19th), theres Idrees the organiser of all things (with a facebook group entitled "Kuwait Expats Group".

oh oh oh! cuisine in kuwait is also heavenly, there are a few restaurants i can recommend with a quaint atmosphere that, to me, are all part of the kuwaiti experience.

you just have to be careful who you trust coz not everyone is trustworthy.

Welocme on board:))

Welcome, & you picked the right month to start with (hot weather :D)!

Looking at your hobbies...
On photography, I suggest you keep an eye on Aymstrong as they have training on (paid) photography lessons with groups now and then (with a professional photographer from UK) http://www.aymstrong.com/. Through this group you might get to know like-minded. I'm actually quite impressed by the growing number of (starting) photographers in Kuwait, as it let's you be more creative. I've seen amazing shots made in Mubarakia in the old souk, and throughout the Gulf-road with the Q8 skyline/sea view around you.

for arts & music as legacy mentioned, keep an eye on Facebook announcements

On reading, a lot less luck here I'm afraid... it's hard to find serious bookstores (no Virgin megastore is NOT a bookstore), except for a few smaller shops here and there (hard to find!)... so not really much, and I get my books through Amazon :)

Bhaas, did u check out that book shop in salmiya? the one thats also a cafe? we should seriously do that next week if u havent still! i want to too!

speaking of photogs, yes, u catch em on the scientific center walkway at the dead hours of night with their tripods and everything :P

so pick up a camera and pick up a new hobby :)

bhaas

lol! no, I never got to it honestly to checkout that place, and I can do next week! After all, we've been planning that visit for months now! maybe we can double their customer base immediately :P

I'll drop you a note for a suitable time and date - of course others are also most welcome to join, just let me know!!

Thanks Bhass and Legacy for the wonderful tips. I read about Better Books & Cafe on Grapevine Kuwait. Apparently they also have a movie night every Saturday.
