Apostille

Hi everyone,

I've been around here a few times scrambling for information about work visas and legalization.

I from from Belgium, part of the apostille agreement.

I attempted to search for an answer to a simple question that I haven't been able to find.

I'm having my criminal record from Belgium apostilled and sent to Brazil for translation (it can only be done here, and yes there is a translator for Dutch)
.My question is; does the translation also need to be apostilled? because that would require a bit of redundant sending back to Belgium just to be sent to Brazil a second time

Thank you for your time,
Mike

No, the translation does not need to be apostilled, because it needs to be done by a Sworn Translator who has been approved by a state Junta de Comércio for his/her translations to be accepted as having legal effect in Brazil.  The translations are printed on a special, immediately recognizable stationery, and the signature is also officially recognized.
Unless the translator you're talking to can provide all of the above, you'll be wasting your money:  the translation will not be accepted.
