Irish national obtaining permission for her son to live in Ireland.

Post new topic

Johncar

A Filipino friend, who also has Irish nationality,  is married to a man who has British and Irish nationality.      They live in Ireland.

They have property in Spain too and each or both have the right to live in Spain if they choose.

She has a son, 12 years old,  living Philippines.

She wants to bring her son either to Ireland or to Spain.

She wants to know if it is easier to obtain residence status in Ireland or in Spain

Many thanks

Hi John,

Not cut & dried; this link will take your friend to a start point to begin her process for Ireland; it will take her to a link to a 71-page Policy Document

My only real comment is that Ireland began tightening up on their immigration procedures about 9 months ago; mainly because they were so easy to circumvent, so it will almost certainly be "trying".

Hope this helps.

Many thanks for that   I will read it later but I had come upon this.    It  EHIC seems to imply that all the countries in the EU have the same rules

Hi again.  Yeah, they're meant to have the same rules, my experience is that it's the national interpretation of what the rules mean causes the problems.

I wish your friend the best of luck in her journey.

Many thanks
