Salary questions are really difficult to answer because it depends on what you would earn in your own country and the cost of living in your own country. A Filipino working in the coffee shop I use says he is paid Dh2,000 a month but that is about four times more than he would be paid back home.

For a European that would be far too low but there are many people from, for example, the sub-continent and Philippines living here on that kind of salary.

The big expense is accommodation and if that is provided by the company it makes a huge difference. You must check the details to make sure the accommodation is acceptable to you - for example is it your own room, or is is sharing a room, and if so with how many other people.

JoeyDee, yes of course the cost of living in Dubai comes into it. But it's far more complex than that. We are all guest workers coming from very different societies with very different costs of living. People come here to basically be better off than they are in their own countries, so the facts of our home countries are very much part of the picture.

In Australia the average wage is around AED11,000 a month, in India around half the population live on less than AED140 a month. The cost of living in India is a fraction of the cost of living in Australia, so that impacts on what people from those countries accept as a good salary.

Tens of thousands of people from the low cost of living countries working in Dubai for AED2,000 or AED3,000 a month live better than back in their home countries AND they send money back home too.

Food in Dubai is not expensive and if accommodation is provided people can, and do, live here very cheaply.

I've often talked about this on my blog, just read through the articles about it to see what I mean.

It really is very difficult to advise people on the right thing to do because it's such a personal decision.

You say you will earn about twice as much in Dubai, so in that respect it's a good deal. But you need to know what the accommodation is in detail and decide whether you find it acceptable.

The employer is responsible for air fares, for all visa costs and for private medical insurance. Make sure that is confirmed by him.

Food is not expensive, or it need not be depending what and where you eat.

oh my oh my this is nothing my friend you better negotiate more. your rent in dubai alone will be more than that...now i understand that your rent must or may be covered. however dubai is not a cheap place. bills, licenses, fuel, car, food, going out, entertainment.....it piles up quite high. be smart when you negotiate. few things to keep in mind.

-housing
-fuel/car
-insurance
-school fees
-tickets back home
-investments like 401k IRA concept in the USA (some dubai employers are doing that now)

THBT

Do not confuse people please.

Do not think that an employee with 2700 AED will think about car, insurance, school fees, ticket back home and investment. Accomdation, transportation and medical insurance are provided by employer and that is all. This class of emplyees are working and sleeping only and rarely seeing doctors, they cannot afford more than that. Since they do not have the right to bring theirs wives here, beacause of the salary level, it would be no reason for school fees.
In summary, their salaries do not allow for more work and sleeping.

Amara11,
Do not expect to save more than 1700 AED per month and it is up to you to make the decision.

DubaiInformationSite

1700 seems too high! the rent itself will blow that budget...what are you thinking?

I guess living with this salary is tough here! Try Paris, you would find something better I guess.

I know this post is a few years old BUT in Dubai it is NOT compulsory for employers to bear the cost of private medical insurance.  Is mandatory in AD but not Dubai.  Would hate to think an individual accepted a job on that basis and then arrived here discovering the opposite.

hi amara11
of course you can survive here in dubai just spend ur money those things that you really nid it. you can.....

Hello...
If you can earn so much to meet your own expenses + decent savings so send home + getting annual benefits , then it is good for beginners.
Get a driving license if you wish to live here for longer period.
People with License are horses and without license are donkeys.

Amara i am very much sure this is not position of business development manager or administration manager take this opportunity and all will be fine.

But make sure with this salary you won’t be able to rent a apartment in JBR neither you won’t be able to buy your grocery from Organic and most important if you are a party guy then you won’t be able to party in any of the clubs on Sheik Zayed Road & Jumeria.

Just kidding Aed 2750/- and they are even paying for your Accommodation & medical it's a super offer.

cutesnifer

Really tight. but you can survive. my advice will be. take it and sign up your contract for two or three years. mean while you'll able to meet many people from different companies. And may be you can find good job making use of that professional circle. And may be you can switch to another job.
