When first moving to Bangkok, what would you recommend as the first kind of living arrangement?

I am in my 30's and moving from the US in April. I am inclined to get a hotel or AIRBNB for a couple of weeks before committing to a long term lease somewhere but I don't know the dynamics. Any suggestions on how to find a place to live the first few weeks in Bangkok prior to long term?

Take a look at Agoda to see what is available in your price range.  It might be nice to be in walking distance of the Sky Train and it doesn't have to be special to start out with because you really should be out and about getting your bearings.

You are awesome. Thank you for the advice.

Never done that

If i have to do it all over, I do it the same way as when i move to Thailand in 2011.

Stay at a hotel or guesthouse in the area you think you like to live in.
Then start to check out the area, Does it have all you need.
like convenience store, Shopping mail, Big C and so on.

Does it have good street food, Have restaurant you like to eat from, A local market.

Easy access to main street with Bus, Taxi, Piggycar, Skytrain and so on, Or what you need.

Then i go to the area on various time doing the day & Night, On daily days and week end days, To see what going on, As some shops (some that play very high & loud music) open late or only in the week ends.
Some have a lot of problems at night time and so on.

Then i start to hit the condo towers in that area, Start talking to people.
Or if i want to rent i house (I did that the second time i look for a place to rent) Go to Soi (side street) and look for house with a sign, No you dont need to know what the sign say, People going to come and talk to you if you go there and look for a little time.

I did it that way when moving here, And language was no problem for me, There is all ways 1 or more that speak enough English, Or they send for someone that speak English and help out.

The hard part can be trust you new landlord, as the contract be in Thai.
But you can take a chance or if you have good Thai friend have them help you, Or tell the land lord, You going to translate the lease first, So you have it in English, Only cost a few Baht, And can be done so many places.

Kindly.

Some Places you may want to scout living options:

www.renthub.in.thhttps://www.9apartment.com/https://www.hongpak.in.th/
(this site is in Thai only, but I get around this by using the google translate extension in the Chrome Browser)

I am planning multiple extended stays in Thailand (Don Muang area for Bangkok, and Maha Sarakham in the Khon Kaen area) The sites mentioned are my go to sites. There are more sites to consider, but I defer to these two sources for stays in Bangkok.

I also suggest this website to assist in your transition to the "Land of Smiles (LOS)"
