Hi, I am Deepika Chimata. We are currently in India and will be moving to Belgium at the end of February or the beginning of March with my husband and 2-year-old son.We are searching for a nice furnished place to live in close to my husband's office which is located in Braine-l'Alleud, Belgium. Our period of stay in Belgium is 1 year. I would be grateful if you could suggest me good places around Braine-l'Alleud, Belgium. My major criteria is the place should be very kid friendly like close to parks, market and playschools. Our budget is 650 to 900 inclusive of all the amenities. Kindly suggest places to look out for accommodation.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Kind regards
Deepika Chimata

Braine l'Alleud is close to Waterloo. Waterloo is a nice area to live. You may also consider living in Brussels, as it is not a long commute to Braine l'Alleud.

Hi Aneeshks, Thanks for replying. I am also seeing other places like Uccle and Ixelles other than Brussels and Waterloo . Please suggest if they are good places to live in and do they have proper public transportation facilities to commute to work. Also, please suggest which place would be the best among this four cities- Brussels, Uccle, Waterloo and Ixelles. I really appreciate your help.

Kind Regards,
Deepika Chimata

I would not suggest 1000 Brussels because of the huge delay in paperwork (residence permit etc). All the other areas are good. Public transport, you can use google maps to check the connections from potential residence areas to your husband's work etc.

Well, actually I'm from Waterloo and I'm now living in Braine-l'Alleud, so I guess I can give you my opinion on the matter :D

Waterloo is way too expensive to live correctly if you don't get a big/huge Belgian salary.
Prices have only kept increasing in the last ten years, it's nearly impossible to rent something good or even buying...
Your budget is way too small to find something "correct" for that price.

The main reason is that St John's International School (America) and Scandinavian High School are in Waterloo.
And so, a lot of expats are living there and all their companies are paying for the houses. (1/3 of the residenship of Waterloo are American and Swedish)

Generally, you'll find good/correct apartment around 1000€+.
Keep in mind that Waterloo, Lasnes, Rhode-St-Genèse are the most expensive cities in Belgium.

Braine-l'Alleud is still in your budget for a good apartment/small house but it depends where. (some part of BLA is more Bourgeois, and so, more expensive than others...)

You might consider Genappe/Lillois/Braine-le-Château.
It's a bit more far away but prices are really lower and you can even find better place!

As an advice, have a look on google map, the more you go south, the less expensive it will be, but you'll need a car/motorbike!

You can have an idea of the price on immoweb.be it's one of the most known website for renting/buying and they've an english version.

Good luck  :top:
