Returning to Germany with Mauritian Spouse

Post new topic

Annierajoo

Hi,

I've been living abroad for many years and the last 3 years I've been living in Mauritius with my family. However, in the medium to long term (3 to 5 years), we are considering to move back to Germany. What are the laws and regulations for a non-German (Mauritian) spouse to be able to live and work in Germany? He also has UK citizenship, so that might actually be easier but then who knows with Brexit....

Thanks!
Anne

For non-EU spouses, a family reunion visa is needed to join the partner in Germany.
You can read lots about that kind of visa on the forum (and elsewhere).
For spouses of German citizens, the requirements for finances and living space are lower than for others, but you do need basic German language skills - so take an A1 course before you apply!

Beppi has given a concise overview above. More need not be written because this has been covered extensively on this site on multiple threads. And for the details and actual requirements then simply look at the German immigration authority website.
